Present forestry information and interpretations programs


Application

This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to deliver forestry information and interpretations programs to client groups. The unit also includes the evaluation of program outcomes.

The unit applies to Forestry worker, Arboriculture worker, Farm forestry worker, Nursery worker

Plantation establishment worker, Plantation forest officer, Silviculturist.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Plan information and interpretations programs

1.1 Identify suitable topics or themes and assess against existing programs and organisational priorities.

1.2 Obtain necessary approvals from appropriate personnel and organize resources in line with organisational procedures.

1.3 Develop promotional material in a format suitable for dissemination to target participants in line with program timeframes

2. Conduct information and interpretations programs

2.1 Conduct information and interpretations programs to meet identified objectives that are suitable to the size and nature of target participants

2.2 Address particular needs of participants in the design and delivery of programs

2.3 Use appropriate presentation methods, equipment and materials to enhance participant interest and involvement.

2.4 Identify problems in the presentation and make adaptations where possible.

3. Evaluate presentations

3.1 Monitor program presentation and evaluate in line with organisational procedures.

3.2 Collect feedback and analyse against program objectives.

3.3 Evaluate materials and format and results document in line with organisational procedures.

3.4 Record and report on program processes to the appropriate personnel.

Evidence of Performance

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

identify suitable activities and deliver information and interpretations programs suitable to participant needs and program objectives, that includes one or more of the following activities:

seminars

talks

information in in-house publications

exhibitions

media releases

technology based training

marketing and promotional programs

evaluate and promote information and interpretations programs and introduce improvements where necessary.

use appropriate communication and interpersonal techniques and methods with colleagues and others

follow organisational policies and procedures related to presenting forestry information and interpretations programs


Evidence of Knowledge

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

organisational policies and procedures for presenting forestry information and interpretations programs

media relations and marketing principles and processes in relation to presenting forestry information and interpretations programs

determining participant needs and target audience requirements

appropriate training locations within a workplace

training and presentation techniques

methods to engage an audience

computer-based presentation techniques and tools


Assessment Conditions

The following resources must be made available:

Work order or similar requirement outlining the type of information or program required to be delivered

Suitable equipment to develop and present the activity including PC’s, materials, audio-visual equipment

Competency is to be assessed in the workplace or a simulated environment that accurately reflects performance in a real workplace setting.

Assessor requirements

Assessors must:

hold the appropriate assessor competency standards as outlined in regulations; and

be able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level being assessed; and

be able to demonstrate how they are continuing to develop their VET knowledge and skills as well as maintaining their industry currency and assessor competence.
