Create and test an interactive CD-ROM/DVD

Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to produce an interactive CD-ROM/DVD.

It applies to individuals who are responsible for the creation and testing of all interactive functions to ensure that the automatic start and other functions operate correctly.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1 Confirm data requirements

1.1 All details required for job are checked and confirmed against job specifications

1.2 Media content is tested to ensure all interactivity performs according to job specifications

1.3 Media is compressed correctly with images at right resolution and any text in correct format

2 Prepare CD-ROM/DVD structure

2.1 Target audience is identified from job specifications

2.2 Welcome page is developed that identifies navigational structure of media

2.3 Folders for containing media are prepared according to interactivity requirements

2.4 All files are named using correct filename convention

3 Set up auto functions

3.1 Autorun is set up to automatically start up CD-ROM/DVD media

3.2 ShelExec.exe is incorporated into autorun script to ensure default programs within shell are started

3.3 Autorun is linked to reader in case target audience does not have one pre-installed

3.4 Where autorun is linked to Adobe Reader, JavaScript is added to appropriate folder to launch PDF file

4 Burn CD-ROM/DVD

4.1 CD-ROM/DVD layout is validated and saved correctly

4.2 Preferred CD-ROM/DVD format is chosen for job

4.3 Test CD-ROM/DVD is burned to test automatic functions and confirm interactivity across different platforms

4.4 Master disc is produced for mass duplication

Evidence of Performance

Evidence of the ability to:

produce TWO CD-ROMs/DVDs which:

include different interactive functions

start automatically with autorun

will link with a reader for computers without a reader installed

have no errors in any of the interactive functions

meet job and organisational requirements.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Evidence of Knowledge

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

explain the purpose of compression technologies

identify relevant media types and multimedia software to create and test a CD-ROM/DVD

describe relevant CD/DVD hardware for burning CDs/DVDs

explain the requirements for multimedia navigation

explain the purpose of scripting languages

clarify types and purposes of different multimedia file formats.

Assessment Conditions

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the digital media technologies field of work and include access to appropriate computer hardware and software.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Foundation Skills

This section describes language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills incorporated in the performance criteria that are required for competent performance.
