Elements and Performance Criteria
ELEMENT | PERFORMANCE CRITERIA |
Elements describe the essential outcomes. | Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. |
1. Identify digital processes | 1.1 Various digital processes used within the workplace are identified and documented 1.2 Advantages or disadvantages of one process over another for a particular job are identified and a suitable option recommended |
2. Assess job requirements | 2.1 Printing requirements of the job are determined 2.2 Layout design of the job is reviewed to determine possible printing problems of using a particular process 2.3 End application of the digital product is reviewed to ensure digital process will meet job specifications and enterprise standards |

Evidence of Performance
Evidence of the ability to:
identify various digital printing processes used within the organisation
select the most appropriate digital printing process for a particular job
find and use information relevant to the task from a variety of information sources.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
Evidence of Knowledge
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
outline various digital printing processes used within the digital sector
explain advantages and disadvantages of each process
describe types of substrates that best suit a particular process
explain cost differences between each process
list advantages and disadvantages digital processes have compared to traditional printing methods
identify different applications digital products may be used for
describe the effect heat can have on certain processes
explain the effect light can have of certain processes
describe how folding may affect appearance of a digitally printed job
describe the layout design considerations when using a particular process
identify which colours and combinations are not effective for certain processes
identify work health and safety (WHS) issues in relation to each digital process
identify the location of documentation or other information regarding digital processes.
Assessment Conditions
Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the printing field of work and include access to special purpose tools, equipment and materials used for colour management production.
Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.
