Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise cloud computing characteristics in order to evaluate them. It involves a basic review and analysis of cloud computing delivery, and deployment models, and an evaluation of the benefits and challenges of implementing cloud computing solutions and services.
This unit applies to those engaged in the basic review of a cloud computing solution for an enterprise.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.
Elements and Performance Criteria
ELEMENT | PERFORMANCE CRITERIA |
Elements describe the essential outcomes. | Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element. |
1. Prepare to review cloud technology solutions and services | 1.1 Identify the common terminology, characteristics, major industry technology standards and concepts of cloud computing solutions and services 1.2 Identify the major organisational roles affected by cloud computing solutions and services 1.3 Identify the key business requirements most suitable for transferring to cloud computing solutions and services |
2. Identify the differences between cloud delivery models | 2.1 Identify the characteristics associated with different cloud delivery models 2.2 Identify any other emerging cloud delivery models 2.3 Evaluate the advantages, and disadvantages, of combining different cloud delivery models |
3. Review the performance of different types of cloud deployment models | 3.1 Identify the characteristics associated with different cloud deployment models 3.2 Identify any other emerging cloud deployment models 3.3 Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages, of combining different deployment models |
4. Evaluate the benefits and challenges of using cloud computing solutions and services | 4.1 Identify the possible benefits of adopting cloud solutions and services 4.2 Identify the possible challenges of adopting cloud solutions and services 4.3 Review and document, the impact of implementing a cloud delivery model 4.4 Provide feedback to the appropriate personnel |
Evidence of Performance
Evidence of the ability to:
collate the information on the organisation’s need for cloud technology
identify the key differences, and the performance, in cloud technology models
determine the most appropriate cloud computing solution for the business
provide feedback on the most appropriate cloud computing solution and service.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
Evidence of Knowledge
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
identify the current technology trends, and directions, in information and communications technology (ICT)
identify the major industry technology standards used in cloud computing solutions and services
recognise the vendor product directions in cloud computing solutions and services
describe the current industry hardware and software products, and their general features, capabilities and application
describe the principles of cloud computing solutions and technologies.
Assessment Conditions
Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the network industry, and include access to:
information on the cloud computing solution technologies currently used in the industry
the business requirements
documents detailing work health and safety (WHS) standards, environmental guidelines, and enterprise requirements.
Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.
Foundation Skills
This section describes language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills incorporated in the performance criteria that are required for competent performance.
Skill | Performance Criteria | Description |
Reading | 1.1-1.3, 2.1-2.2, 3.1-3.3, 4.1-4.3 | Analyse and consolidates information, and data, from a range of sources against the defined criteria and requirements, and checks for accuracy and completeness |
Writing | 4.3, 4.4 | Accurately records information and prepares correspondence and documentation, using clear language and organisational formats, and protocols |
Oral Communications | 4.4 | Selects and uses the appropriate strategies to establish and maintain spoken communication, in familiar, and some unfamiliar, contexts Derives meaning from a range of oral texts in familiar, and some unfamiliar, contexts |
Get the work done | All | Plans and implements routine tasks and workload, making limited decisions on sequencing, timing and collaboration, and seeks assistance in setting priorities Makes low-impact decisions within familiar situations, based on a range of predefined or routine solutions, and evaluates the effectiveness of the outcome Identifies ideas for other applications and considers them in current contexts |
