Install, test and evaluate pilot version of ICT system

Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to install a pilot version of a developed information and communications (ICT) system, and test it with a small group of users, in order to evaluate it against the agreed criteria.

It applies to individuals who are senior staff in a development area who are required to test and evaluate new systems.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1. Prepare for the pilot system

1.1 Establish and confirm the objectives, success criteria and acceptance criteria, for pilot implementation

1.2 Identify and secure, the technical and organisational resources required for pilot implementation

1.3 Establish and confirm executive support for the pilot

1.4 Complete the project plan for the pilot, and refer the project documentation to the appropriate person for their approval

2. Install the pilot system

2.1 Install and configure pilot according to the project plan

2.2 Verify and record the technical readiness of the pilot

2.3 Take the necessary actions to determine accuracy of the data

2.4 Prepare a status report, and submit to the appropriate person for their sign-off

3. Test the pilot system

3.1 Work with stakeholders to identify and release the appropriate pilot group

3.2 Brief the pilot-team members on the objectives of the test

3.3 Train the pilot-team members in the new system

3.4 Run the test

4. Evaluate the results and feedback of the pilot

4.1 Assess computerised results of the pilot test

4.2 Interview pilot group members in order to obtain feedback

4.3 Document the feedback and results

4.4 Evaluate according to success, and the acceptance criteria previously established

4.5 Report the final recommendations from the pilot, with regard to a complete installation of the pilot system, to the appropriate person

Evidence of Performance

Evidence of the ability to:

establish objectives, acceptance criteria and resource requirements for implementation of a pilot system

prepare a project plan for a pilot system, according to organisational requirements

install and verify a pilot system

test a pilot system with the pilot team

evaluate the results and feedback on a pilot

report on the outcomes of a pilot system.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Evidence of Knowledge

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

identify the role of stakeholders, and the degree of stakeholder involvement in the development of a pilot system

explain three or more current industry information-gathering methodologies

describe current industry system development and design methodologies

describe current industry-accepted hardware and software products, providing an overview of general features and capabilities, and in-depth details of installing pilot systems

describe the general features and capabilities of current industry-accepted system piloting methodologies

outline quality assurance practices with regard to installing, testing and evaluating a system.

Assessment Conditions

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the programming and software development industry, and include access to the:

pilot system

planning documentation, including acceptance criteria

technical materials

interaction with others involved in the pilot.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

Foundation Skills

This section describes language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills incorporated in the performance criteria that are required for competent performance.

Skill

Performance Criteria

Description

Reading

1.1

Interprets, and critically analyses, complex texts and applies appropriate strategies, to construct meaning from complex texts

Writing

1.4, 2.2, 2.4, 4.3, 4.5

Communicates complex relationships between ideas and information, matching the style of writing to the purpose and audience and displays a knowledge of structure and layout, employing a broad vocabulary, grammatical structure and the conventions appropriate to text

Oral communication

3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4.2, 4.5

Demonstrates flexibility in spoken texts by choosing appropriate structures and strategies, and applies appropriate strategies, in order to extract the main ideas from oral texts

Numeracy

1.4

Selects from, and applies, an expanding range of mathematical and problem-solving strategies in a range of contexts

Navigate the world of work

1.4, 2.4

Recognises and follows, explicit and implicit, protocols, and meets expectations associated with own role

Get the work done

All

Sequences and schedules complex activities, monitors implementation, and manages relevant communication

Uses systematic, analytical processes in complex, non-routine situations, setting goals, gathering relevant information, and identifying, and evaluating, options against the agreed criteria

Uses analytical processes to decide on a course of action, establishing the criteria for deciding between options, and seeking input and advice from others, before taking action when necessary

Understands the key principles and concepts, underpinning the design and operation of digital systems and tools
