Develop technical requirements for business solutions

Application

This unit describes the outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop technical and related requirements that will enable business solutions to be implemented in an organisation.

It applies to individuals who are responsible for performing complex technical analysis to complete a range of tasks and provide solutions to complex problems.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1. Research business requirements

1.1 Define hardware and software requirements of the business solution

1.2 Determine model of business

1.3 Determine technical specifications for business

1.4 Establish interface requirements for end users and external parties

1.5 Document business solution requirements for approval from stakeholders

1.6 Determine information and communications technology (ICT) security requirements

2. Analyse the impact of technical solutions

2.1 Identify hardware, software and network requirements

2.2 Identify software solutions to build business platform

2.3 Identify processes to be changed by the business solution

2.4 Determine the effect changes will have on the value or supply chain

2.5 Research a range of security protocols suitable for business solutions

2.6 Document impact of changes and submit to relevant stakeholders

3. Develop and test business solutions

3.1 Implement hardware and software solutions for testing purposes

3.2 Identify training needs to update personnel skills

3.3 Plan timelines and allocation of resources for business solution

3.4 Develop performance standards and benchmark results

3.5 Determine costs involved to implement business solution

3.6 Document the business solution

4. Secure sign-off of validated solution

4.1 Test, validate and document results of the business solution

4.2 Provide results to appropriate person for verification

4.3 Obtain sign-off on business solution

Evidence of Performance

Evidence of the ability to:

document the internal and external technical environments required to provide a business solution

produce a list of technical requirements

produce an impact statement of the technical solution

evaluate the functionality of the business solution.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Evidence of Knowledge

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

outline business process design

list copyright and intellectual property relating to information and communications technology (ICT) systems development

explain the customer and business liaison processes

describe the implications of technology connectivity

list and describe the potential business solutions

explain the prevailing corporate strategies that may influence business solutions.

Assessment Conditions

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the systems analysis and design field of work, and include access to:

business model

business requirements documentation

customer relationship model

hardware, software and network requirements

software solutions to build business platform

processes to be changed by the business solution

security protocols suitable for business solutions

special purpose tools, equipment, materials and industry software packages.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.
