Application
This unit describes the outcomes required to plan and implement the testing and commissioning of wastewater collection systems. The ability to interpret technical information, identify and assess hazards and perform technical testing procedures is essential to performance.
This unit applies to those working as field staff and operators with specific responsibility for commissioning wastewater collection systems, post-installation or repair, and for ensuring that the functioning of the system complies with relevant specifications and organisational requirements.
The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to, particularly those related to WHS, and manufacturer specifications.
Those undertaking this unit would work under indirect supervision, while performing routine tasks in a familiar context, ensuring minimum damage to the environment.

Evidence of Performance
Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.
monitoring work processes and ensuring safe work practices
identifying, reporting and recording hazards and risks
using personal protective equipment
participating in ensuring compliance with standards, regulations and policies
maintaining and checking records and documents
planning and implementing the testing and commissioning of wastewater collection systems
interpreting the testing requirements of the system from relevant plans and documentation
preparing and checking testing equipment
assessing risks and hazards and taking appropriate preventive measures
using testing equipment
applying testing procedures
identifying and reporting faulty system components
making the system operational and conducting post-commissioning checks
restoring the worksite
completing relevant documentation
Evidence of Knowledge
Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the depth of knowledge demonstrated must be appropriate to the job context of the candidate.

Assessment Conditions
Competency should be assessed in an actual workplace or in a simulated environment, with access to equipment and infrastructure appropriate to the outcome. Competency should be demonstrated over time to ensure the candidate is assessed across a variety of situations.
Assessors must satisfy the NVR/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors.
