Application
This unit applies to personnel required to participate as a member of a team in a variety of activities to build community capacity in relation to prevention, preparedness and response to a fire or other event.
Work at this level is undertaken under direct supervision and instruction.
Examples of typical community safety activities that a person at this level may contribute to as a part of a team include: school programs; information and open days at fire stations; festivals; expos and community events; fire safety presentations; and demonstrations to individual groups and community meetings.

3. Participate in risk mitigation activities | 3.1 Appropriate risk mitigation procedures, work instructions and directions are followed in accordance with organisational procedures. 3.2 Work is undertaken in accordance with work health and safety procedures. 3.3 Mitigation activities are undertaken with minimum damage to the environment in accordance with organisational procedures and legislation. 3.4 Outcomes are reported to supervisor. |

Method of assessment | In a public safety environment assessment is usually conducted via direct observation in a training environment or in the workplace via subject matter supervision and/or mentoring, which is typically recorded in a competency workbook. Assessment is completed using appropriately qualified assessors who select the most appropriate method of assessment. Assessment may occur in an operational environment or in an agency-approved simulated work environment. Forms of assessment that are typically used include: direct observation interviewing the candidate journals and workplace documentation third party reports from supervisors written or oral questions |
