Transport plant, equipment and personnel


Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to transport, load, and unload plant, equipment, and personnel. This does not include the operation of the plant or equipment.

This unit applies to those working in site-based roles.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors, and must be sourced from state jurisdictions prior to applying this unit.

1. Plan and prepare for transport of plant, equipment and/or personnel

1.1 Access, interpret and apply load handling documentation to ensure work activity is compliant

1.2 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements

1.3 Identify hazards and environmental issues, assess the risks and implement control measures in line with workplace policies

1.4 Identify load characteristics, environmental issues, and any special handling or equipment requirements according to workplace procedures

1.5 Obtain and interpret transportation schedule to perform work activity according to standard operating procedures and safe work practices

1.6 Determine transfer location and establish transfer pathway

1.7 Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activities

1.8 Communicate and coordinate planned activities with others at the site prior to commencement of work activities

1.9 Prepare plant, equipment and/or authorised personnel for relocation in line with standard operating procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements

1.10 Conduct pre-operational checks to establish the readiness of plant and equipment for operation and report unsafe plant and equipment to appropriate personnel

1.11 Calculate the load to be transported in line with workplace procedures

2. Load, transport and unload plant, equipment and/or personnel in line with established requirements to complete work activity

2.1 Carry out pre-start and start-up checks of equipment in line with workplace procedures

2.2 Lift and shift load safely using appropriate devices, protective restraints for personnel, and appropriate personal protective equipment in line with workplace procedures

2.3 Transport load within the operating capacity of the transport vehicle, using appropriate devices and protective restraints for personnel

2.4 Transport loads to specified destinations, according to work requirements, policies and procedures, whilst observing relevant regulatory and site based codes and traffic management requirements

2.5 Unload loads in line with workplace procedures

2.6 Monitor hazards and risks during operations and ensure safety of self, other personnel, plant and equipment

2.7 Park up, shut down, secure and carry out post operational inspection of equipment in line with workplace procedures

3. Conduct housekeeping activities

3.1 Clear and restore work area according to workplace procedures

3.2 Manage and/or report hazards to maintain a safe working environment

3.3 Complete and file documentation, and distribute according to workplace requirements
