Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for telescopic materials handler operations

1.1 Access, interpret and apply telescopic materials handler documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant

1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements

1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures

1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities

1.5 Identify, obtain and apply signage requirements

1.6 Select plant, tools and equipment, check for serviceability/faults and rectify or report verbally or in writing

2. Conduct telescopic materials handler pre-operational checks

2.1 Perform pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures

2.2 Check telescopic materials handler controls, brakes, attachments and other implements for manoeuvrability and serviceability and ensure faults are rectified or reported

3. Operate telescopic materials handler

3.1 Assess site and operating hazards and apply safe operating techniques

4. Attach, secure, lift, carry and place materials

4.1 Use load handling communication methods with all parties

4.2 Communicate with Dogman to establish the weight of the load

4.3 Communicate with Dogman to ensure safe working load requirements have been assessed and appropriate slings and lifting gear has been selected, attached and secured

4.4 Locate machinery and ensure stability

4.5 Shift the load

4.6 Use conventional hand and audible signals during the operation

5. Select, remove and fit attachments

5.1 Select attachment for the task

5.2 Move and fit attachment

5.3 Test and confirm correct fitting and operation

5.4 Use attachment per manufacturer’s recommendations and design limits

5.5 Remove, clean and store attachment

6. Relocate the telescopic materials handler

6.1 Prepare machine and equipment for relocation

6.2 Transport machine and equipment safely between worksites, observing relevant codes and traffic management requirements

7. Carry out machine operator maintenance

7.1 Park and prepare telescopic materials handler for maintenance and shut down

7.2 Conduct inspection and fault finding

7.3 Remove and replace defective parts

7.4 Perform scheduled operator maintenance

7.5 Process written records

8. Conduct housekeeping activities

8.1 Clean-up work area and dispose of or recycle materials

8.2 Clean, check, maintain and store plant, tools and equipment
