Conduct underground load, haul and dump truck operations


Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate and load, haul and dump materials using an underground load haul dump truck.

This unit applies to those working in site -based roles.

1. Plan and prepare for underground load haul dump operations

1.1 Access, interpret and apply underground load haul dump operations documentation

1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements

1.3 Identify hazards and environmental issues, assess the risks and implement control measures in line with workplace policies

1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment required for work activities

1.5 Select required load haul dump equipment and/or attachments and confirm suitability for work activities

1.6 Coordinate and communicate planned activities with others at the site prior to commencement of work activity

1.7 Inspect and assess site conditions to determine if scaling is required and take action according to workplace procedures

1.8 Use approved dust suppression and extraction methods

1.9 Check work area is ventilated before entry in line with workplace procedures

1.10 Apply signage and barricades according to workplace procedures

2. Operate load haul dump plant within operating capacities of equipment

2.1 Carry out prestart and start-up checks in line with workplace procedures

2.2 Identify faults or defects and rectify or report within scope of own responsibility and according to workplace procedures

2.3 Drive and operate load haul dump using techniques suited to equipment capabilities, site and work condition, and according to workplace procedures

2.4 Monitor and manage equipment performance using indicators and alarms

2.5 Monitor hazards and risks during operations, and ensure safety of self, other personnel, plant and equipment

3. Load material according to work activity

3.1 Wash down surrounding area and wet material to suppress dust

3.2 Scale down loose material in a safe manner

3.3 Identify and manage possible misfires in accordance with workplace procedures

3.4 Identify any contaminants and remove in line with workplace procedures

3.5 Bog to work plan removing required materials, checking the road is kept clear during the process

4. Haul and dumps material to complete work activity

4.1 Confirm material type and haul to designated location, lowering bucked to recommended position

4.2 Identify and manage spillages on hauling surface in a safe manner incorporating safe work practices

4.3 Slow equipment to crawl when approaching dump site

4.4 Lift bucket to required height in readiness for dumping, maintaining stability of loader

4.5 Dump material evenly distributing load or according to workplace procedures

4.6 Scale down site ensuring loose materials are dislodged safely

4.7 Leave site and surrounding area clear, safe and accessible

4.8 Park up, shut down, secure and carry out post operational inspection of equipment in line with workplace procedures

5. Carry out housekeeping activities

5.1 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials according to workplace procedures

5.2 Manage and/or report hazards to maintain a safe working environment

5.3 Complete and file or distribute documentation in a manner that complies with workplace practices
