Plug/unplug reefer units to power sources

Appropriate personal protective equipment is selected and used

Reefer units are plugged/unplugged safely in accordance with workplace procedures

Reefer units are checked to be running correctly after being plugged in

Problems with the operation of reefer units are identified and reported to appropriate personnel in accordance with workplace procedures

Faults in reefer units are investigated and reported in accordance with workplace procedures

Reefer units are unplugged as required and cables are cleared from units

Attach/detach units

Units are attached/detached safely in accordance with regulatory and code of practice requirements, and workplace procedures

Problems with the operations of units are identified and reported to appropriate personnel

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying precautions and required action to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards

applying relevant legislation and workplace procedures

communicating effectively with others

identifying and using relevant equipment

identifying cargo, container and goods, coding, Australian Dangerous Goods (ADG) Code and International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code markings and where applicable emergency information panels

implementing contingency plans

modifying activities depending on operational contingencies, risk situations and environments

operating and adapting to differences in equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures

reading, interpreting and following relevant instructions, procedures, information and signs

receiving, acknowledging and sending messages with available communications equipment

reporting and/or rectifying problems, faults or malfunctions promptly, in accordance with workplace procedures

working collaboratively with others

working systematically with required attention to detail without injury to self or others, or damage to goods or equipment.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

Australian and international standards, codes of practice and regulations relevant to connecting and disconnecting reefer units

cargo marking and numbering systems

operational work systems, equipment, management and site operating systems for the connection and disconnection of reefer units

problems that may occur when connecting and disconnecting reefer units and appropriate action that can be taken to resolve the problems

relevant (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) and environmental protection procedures and guidelines

site layout and location of reefer units

workplace procedures and policies for connecting and disconnecting reefer units.

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so. Where this is not appropriate, assessment on connecting and disconnecting reefer units must occur in a simulated workplace operational situation that replicates workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment include:

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations

applicable documentation including workplace procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals

relevant materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment currently used in industry.
