Provide sanitation and water services support to passenger transportation units


Application

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to provide sanitation and water services support to passenger transportation units in accordance with workplace and regulatory requirements, in the transport and logistics industry.

It includes planning the decanting and watering of passenger vehicles, carriages or vessels; providing a decanting and watering service; and completing all decanting and watering operations.

Work is performed under some supervision, generally within a team environment.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Plan decanting and watering of passenger vehicles/carriages/vessels

Transport systems vehicles, carriages or vessel type are identified to assess nature and extent of servicing required

Sanitary waste removal and water system refill are planned to ensure minimal inconvenience and delay to customers and services

Provide decanting service

2.1

Decanting unit is connected to transport unit waste tanks in accordance operational requirements

Transport unit waste is removed to holding tanks in accordance with workplace procedures

Decanting unit is disconnected from transport unit and unit is cleaned in accordance with workplace and health and hygiene regulations

Provide water service

3.1

Water supply is connected to transport unit water storage tanks in accordance with operational requirements

3.2

Transport unit water storage tanks are filled in accordance with work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations

Water supply is disconnected from transport unit and unit is cleaned in accordance with workplace and health and hygiene regulations

Complete decanting and watering

4.1

Sanitary waste is removed and stored in accordance with environmental workplace procedures

Housekeeping and equipment storage requirements are maintained in accordance with workplace procedures

Documentation is completed and proofread in accordance with workplace procedures

Evidence of Performance

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying precautions and required action to minimise, control or eliminate hazards

applying relevant legislation and workplace procedures

completing relevant documentation

handling and storing hazardous substances and materials

interpreting and following operational instructions and prioritising work

modifying activities depending on operational contingencies, risk situations and environments

monitoring work activities in terms of planned schedule

operating and adapting to differences in equipment in accordance with operating procedures

reading and interpreting relevant instructions, procedures, information, labels and signs

selecting and safely using relevant equipment and materials

selecting and using required personal protective equipment conforming to industry and work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) standards

selecting, mixing and applying appropriate cleaning materials

storing cleaning materials and equipment

working systematically with required attention to detail without injury to self or others, or damage to goods or equipment.


Evidence of Knowledge

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

communication requirements, including radio operation

current Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG)

documentation and record requirements

equipment, chemicals and materials used and the precautions and procedures that should be implemented in their use

food safety standards

housekeeping standards and procedures

operational work systems, equipment, management and site operating systems for providing sanitation and water services support to passenger transportation units

problems that may occur when providing sanitation and water services support to passenger transportation units and appropriate action that can be taken to resolve these problems

site layout

workplace policies, procedures and guidelines for:

discharging/decanting of waste and charging water containers

environmental protection

providing sanitation and water services support to passenger transportation units

sanitary waste storage

WHS/OHS.


Assessment Conditions

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment include:

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations

applicable documentation including workplace procedures, regulations, food safety standards, codes of practice and operation manuals

relevant materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment currently used in industry.
