Plan erection of temporary storage facility

1.1

Plans, storage specifications, assembly details and erection sequence are obtained and examined for accuracy to meet intended storage requirements

Engineering drawings, computations and instructions are obtained from qualified persons as required

Local and state/territory authority approvals for storage facility construction are obtained

Hazards are identified, risks are assessed and control measures are implemented

Erect temporary storage facility

2.1

Foundations and earthworks for temporary storage are prepared in accordance with workplace instructions and specifications

2.2

Structural and storage components are assembled and placed in accordance with workplace instructions and specifications

2.3

Protective sheeting (floor and wall) is placed and sealed/sewn in accordance with workplace specifications

2.4

Material is placed into temporary storage facility in accordance with specifications and site procedures

2.5

Grain protection measures are implemented in accordance with workplace requirements

2.6

Labour and equipment are coordinated for timely and efficient completion of work

Dismantle temporary storage facility after out loading

3.1

Procedures for dismantling temporary storage facility, including sequencing of processes, are confirmed with qualified personnel

Labour and equipment requirements for dismantling temporary storage facility are organised and scheduled

3.3

Material is removed from storage in accordance with workplace procedures

3.4

Protective sheeting (floor and wall) is dismantled and folded for future use or disposed of, in accordance with workplace procedures

Structural components are disassembled, transported and stacked in accordance with workplace instructions

Labour and equipment are coordinated for timely and efficient completion of work

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements, performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying precautions and required action to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards

applying relevant legislation and workplace procedures

communicating and working effectively with others

completing relevant documentation

identifying, selecting and using relevant equipment

implementing contingency plans

modifying activities depending on operational contingencies, risk situations and environments

monitoring and prioritising work activities in terms of planned schedule

operating and adapting to differences in equipment in accordance with operating procedures

operating electronic communications equipment to required protocol

planning own work, predicting consequences and identifying improvements

reading, interpreting and following relevant instructions, procedures and signs

selecting and using required personal protective equipment conforming to industry and work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) standards

working systematically with required attention to detail without injury to self or others, or damage to goods or equipment.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements, performance criteria and include knowledge of:

emergency response procedures

equipment applications, capacities, configurations, safety hazards and control mechanisms

grain protection measures

how to identify characteristics of commodity types, varieties and grades

problems that may occur and appropriate action that can be taken to resolve these problems

procedures for environmental control and disposal activities

range of construction methods used in erecting temporary storage facilities

regulations relevant to erecting and dismantling temporary grain storage facilities

site layout and obstacles

storage and safe handling procedures

workplace procedures and policies for coordinating the erection and dismantling of temporary grain storage facilities.

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations

applicable documentation including workplace procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals

relevant materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment currently used in industry.
