Application
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to effectively operate a vehicle in an environmentally sustainable manner. Operation of a vehicle in an environmentally sustainable manner is performed with limited supervision, and with duty of care responsibility for self and others in achieving the prescribed outcomes. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication. |
Elements and Performance Criteria

1.3 | Potential environmental factors that may impact on operating vehicles are identified
2 | Operate a vehicle in an environmentally sustainable manner | 2.1 | Environmental regulations for operating vehicles in an environmentally sustainable manner are complied with |
2.2 | Environmental factors are considered when operating vehicles
3 | Follow environmentally sustainable operating procedures | 3.1 | Vehicle maintenance efficiencies are identified to ensure vehicle is operating at optimum levels |
3.2 | Vehicle performance is monitored and appropriate action is taken in response to inefficient performance, including basic maintenance
3.3 | Performance inefficiencies are reported to appropriate personnel |
Evidence of Performance
Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include: |
applying techniques for operating a vehicle in an environmentally sustainable manner interpreting and following operational instructions and prioritising work monitoring performance of a vehicle, and taking appropriate action as required operating and adapting to differences in equipment in accordance with workplace procedures reading and interpreting relevant instructions, procedures, information and signs working collaboratively with others. |
Evidence of Knowledge
Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of: |
efficient driving techniques and environmental driving considerations, including factors than can affect the environment if not operating a vehicle in an environmentally sustainable manner factors that may cause traffic delays and diversions and related action that can be taken by a driver relevant legislation and workplace procedures for operating vehicles in an environmentally sustainable manner relevant state/territory road traffic authority road rules, regulations, permit and licence requirements relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) and environmental procedures and regulations for operating a vehicle in an environmentally sustainable manner workplace documentation workplace driving and operational instructions. |
Assessment Conditions
As a minimum, assessors must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment. As a minimum, assessment must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment. Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions. Final assessment is to take place in a commercial vehicle typical of that used in industry Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate. Resources for assessment include: a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations applicable documentation including workplace procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals relevant materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment currently used in industry. A simulator is not suitable for final assessment of this unit of competency. |
Foundation Skills
Foundation skills essential to performance are explicit in the performance criteria of this unit of competency.
