Inspect and assess pallet condition

1.1

Pallet inspection method/s is determined in compliance with work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements and workplace procedures

Hazards are identified, risks are assessed and control measures are implemented

Appropriate equipment is selected and used to inspect pallet

Visual and manual check of pallet condition is carried out in accordance with workplace standard operating procedure

Level of pallet damage is identified, and repair method is determined and recorded in accordance with workplace procedures

Repair non-conforming pallets

2.1

Lifting devices and equipment are selected and checked for safe working operation

2.2

Pallet is positioned and secured

2.3

Repair to decks and bearers is undertaken in accordance with selected repair method, and WHS/OHS and workplace safe operating requirements

Pallet is inspected for conformity to workplace specifications

Complete operations

3.1

Pallet is relocated to holding area without damage to pallet, personnel or equipment

3.2

Lifting devices and equipment are checked and returned to storage area

Documentation is completed in accordance with workplace procedures

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

adapting to differences in equipment in accordance with operating procedures

applying precautions and required action to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards

applying relevant legislation and workplace procedures

communicating and working effectively with others

identifying, selecting and using relevant materials and equipment efficiently and effectively

maintaining required tools and machinery

modifying activities depending on operational contingencies, risk situations and environments

monitoring and prioritising work activities in terms of planned schedule

planning own work, predicting consequences and identifying improvements

reading, interpreting and following relevant instructions, procedures, information and signs

selecting and using required personal protective equipment conforming to industry and work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) standards

working systematically with required attention to detail without injury to self or others, or damage to goods or equipment.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

documentation and record requirements

equipment used for repairing pallets and the precautions and procedures that should be followed in its use

housekeeping standards and procedures

operational work systems, equipment, management and site operating systems for repairing pallets

problems that may occur and appropriate action that can be taken to resolve these problems

relevant regulations and Australian Standards for repairing pallets

relevant WHS/OHS and environmental protection procedures and guidelines

site layout and obstacles

workplace procedures and policies for the repair of pallets.

As a minimum, assessors must satisfy applicable regulatory requirements, which include requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so; where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment include:

a range of relevant exercises, case studies and/or simulations

applicable documentation including workplace procedures, regulations, codes of practice and operation manuals

relevant materials, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment currently used in industry.
