Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

AHCNAR506 - Develop and implement sustainable land use strategies

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Assess requirements for improved land use

  1. Audit the natural resource base and identify threats to sustainability
  2. Review the production and management plans to incorporate sustainable land use principles
  3. Assess water resources, quality and impacts of run off for risk of erosion
  4. Assess soil health and fertility against the requirements of the production plan
  5. Assess vegetation types and coverage and identify required changes

Treat areas of land degradation

  1. Realign fences to land classes and soil conservation works
  2. Protect contour banks and repair as necessary
  3. Construct water carrying structures or repair as necessary
  4. Establish shelter belts for crop and stock protection
  5. Review and amend soil cultivation and planting practices to prevent erosion and minimise soil run-off
  6. Plan grazing strategies to maximise ground cover and avoid damage through foot tracks or damage to banks
  7. Ensure all works and plans comply with environmental protection legislation, regulations and codes of practice
