Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

AHCSDP303 - Maintain seed crops

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Assess seed crop condition, growth and requirements

  1. Monitor crops to assess their condition and needs and report observations
  2. Identify, monitor and report pests and diseases at nominated threshold levels
  3. Establish sites for regular measurement of soil moisture in consultation with directions

The candidate must be assessed on their ability to integrate and apply the performance requirements of this unit in a workplace setting. Performance must be demonstrated consistently over time and in a suitable range of contexts.

The candidate must provide evidence that they can:

implement pest and disease control strategies

monitor crops for levels of pests and diseases and moisture

monitor the health and maturity of the crop

complete records and documentation accurately and promptly

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of:

principles and practices of seed crop maintenance

appropriate legislative requirements, manufacturer’s instructions and organisation procedures/instructions

contractor machinery cleanliness

environmental impacts associated with the operation of machinery and equipment in a harvesting context
