Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Hot test engine

  1. Services are connected to the engine, simulating normal operating conditions, and engine is brought to hot operating conditions
  2. Mechanical, sensory and electronic scan tool tests are conducted and results are compared against performance specifications
  3. Minor modifications are carried out according to workplace procedures
  4. Test results are recorded and documented
  5. Engine is designated as conforming or requiring rectification, and is labelled and prepared for transfer to assembly line or engine rectification area

Range Statement

This section specifies work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included. Bold italicised wording, if used in the performance criteria, is detailed below.

Workplace procedures must include:

engine test equipment operations

recording and reporting

work health and safety (WHS) requirements

workplace quality guidelines.
