Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

prepare a construction plan assessment report relating to the above assessment, that:

interprets and applies requirements of applicable legislation, standards and regulations relating to disability access

evaluates construction plans for the provision of access

interprets the impact of the full range of disabilities and the limitations that each disability places on the individual’s ability to access the building

advises on building compliance with legislative requirements and usability by people with disabilities

fulfils contractual requirements with client

recommends, where required, corrective actions to:

enhance building accessibility

overcome areas of access non-compliance, including strategies for alternative means of providing full access for users.

In conducting the above assessments, the person must:

use effective consultation skills with clients and other key stakeholders to clarify requirements and contractual conditions with client

read and interpret construction plans

interpret and apply requirements of building legislation, standards and regulations relating to disability access and evaluate the provision of access in relation to those requirements

interpret professional code of practice and apply it to own work practices

interpret how the full range of environmental barriers impacts on people with a range of disabilities and impairments

use research skills to source information that assists in developing potential solutions to the provision of adequate access

use measurement tools in line with manufacturer specifications and record collected data accurately

apply and adhere to building-specific work health and safety (WHS) requirements.
