Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy the requirements of the elements, performance criteria, foundation skills and range of conditions of this unit.

The person must also assist with two resource recovery operations.

While assisting above resource recovery operations, the person must:

discuss work tasks with relevant personnel

clean the work area and equipment to remove debris and contamination after resource recovery is completed

assist in conducting a quality control inspection of the segregated resources for recovery to ensure they comply with task requirements

identify and contain hazardous waste

identify resources for recovery and segregate them into waste streams

monitor the recovery site to ensure safety, waste containment within the designated area, and adequate access and availability of space

follow organisational procedures to work safely and comply with regulatory and legal requirements relating to resource recovery.

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must demonstrate knowledge of:

classifications of dangerous goods

hazards and risks associated with waste including hazardous substances and dangerous goods

lifecycle of waste products: reduce, reuse and recycle

organisational policies and procedures and regulatory and legal requirements relating to resource recovery

procedures for containing segregated waste types including containing and isolating hazardous waste

types, streams and characteristics of waste including hazardous and dangerous waste and non-conforming waste streams

waste management hierarchy and how it is applied.
