Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Perform simple sequences with a partner

  1. Clarify with relevant personnel requirements for short partnered sequences

  3. Agree with partner on ways to recover from potential problems and practise them as required
  4. Perform sequences applying balance, coordination, technique and expressive skills to achieve harmony of movement with partner

Evidence of the ability to:

perform a simple dance sequence with a partner on at least two occasions

demonstrate competent execution of basic techniques when performing, including:

coordinated footwork

appropriate arm lines

correct body positioning in relation to partner

holding

catching

releasing

supporting or being supported

respond to constructive feedback on own performance.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided for each of the above points at least once.

To complete the unit requirements the individual must:

describe the principles and conventions of partnering in dance and partnering techniques relevant to chosen dance style

explain how the following principles relate to physical movements and techniques when dancing with a partner:

relationship with gravity

spatial awareness

successional movement

use of breath

folding

extending

rotating

shifting weight

explain how the following apply in the context of safe dance practice and injury prevention:

articulation of the spine

engagement of the feet

bases of support, including feet, legs, hands, arms and torso

range of motion of the joints

differentiation of the legs and pelvis

healthy nutrition and diet.
