Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Evidence of the ability to:

compile a range of short audio sequences that meet production requirements and deadlines

prepare questions appropriate to the interview purpose

operate basic audio recording equipment and use microphones in non-studio locations to record optimal quality sound

use basic editing software proficiently to refine audio segments

make judgements regarding the sound quality and content of recorded segments

document and archive audio sequences in accordance with enterprise procedures.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

outline typical challenges that arise when compiling audio for broadcast and how to handle these

describe microphone techniques for:

recording audio in variable weather conditions

minimising the effect of background location noise while recording audio

identify technical characteristics of commonly used microphones

describe a range of digital formats compatible with various editing processes and recording equipment

outline work health and safety requirements for working with sound.
