Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Evidence of the ability to:

implement sound designs that creatively and technically meet sound design specifications

work creatively and collaboratively with others on implementing sound designs

use a range of industry current sound recording, production and playback equipment in line with production requirements and industry standards.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

describe the production requirements that may impact decisions about sound designs

explain the copyright requirements that relate to sound design

explain the operational principles for available sound recording, production and playback equipment

explain the importance of each of the following to sound recording:

characteristics of sound in different recording and performance environments

availability of recording equipment and recording media

styles of musical interpretation

explain the basic principles of acoustics in relation to sound recording

describe the main techniques for evaluating the implementation of a sound design specification

explain the issues and challenges that typically arise when implementing sound designs, and how to address them.
