Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

CUASTA401 - Operate show control systems

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare for show control operations

  1. Liaise with relevant personnel to confirm timelines and show control requirements
  2. Assess capabilities of available show control systems and reach agreement on ways to overcome shortcomings as required
  3. Document plans that specify how show control requirements will be programmed to meet timelines
  4. Discuss plans with relevant personnel and amend as required

Evidence of the ability to:

program and operate a show control system to create the sound, vision and movement effects required in a show, presentation or installation on at least two occasions

work collaboratively.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided for each of the above points at least once.

To complete the unit requirements the individual must:

explain features of, and process for selecting, files in standard show control systems

describe issues and challenges that typically arise when setting up and operating show control systems, along with solutions to address them

explain musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) and show-based protocols and control mediums.
