Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Instructions to Assessors

Evidence Guide

The Evidence Guide provides advice on assessment and must be read in conjunction with the performance criteria, required skills and knowledge, range statement and the Assessment Guidelines for the Training Package.

Overview of assessment

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

The following evidence is critical to the judgement of competence in this unit:

ability to use a range of construction techniques to produce 2D and 3D products for use as accessories

knowledge of materials and techniques typically used in the construction of different types of accessories.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

The assessment context must provide for:

practical demonstration of skills through the production of hard and soft sculptured accessories for a production.

Method of assessment

Assessment may incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of essential underpinning knowledge, and might include:

evaluation of accessories created by the candidate in relation to creative and production quality

oral questioning/interview aimed at evaluating the processes used in developing accessory specifications

evaluation of sketches, drawings or specifications developed by the candidate

third party reports and portfolios of evidence.

Assessment methods should closely reflect workplace demands and the needs of particular groups (e.g. people with disabilities, and people who may have literacy or numeracy difficulties such as speakers of languages other than English, remote communities and those with interrupted schooling).

Guidance information for assessment

Assessment of this unit requires access to:

costume designs from which the candidate can develop specifications and undertake construction

equipment, tools and materials used for construction of 2D and 3D objects.

Required Skills and Knowledge

Required skills

typical materials used to create hard and soft sculptured accessories, including their use and properties

producing and modifying technical drawings and illustrations

Required knowledge

techniques for working with materials used for hard and soft sculptured accessories

sources for materials typically used in a performance context

innovative and experimental pattern making techniques in 2D and 3D

Range Statement

The range statement relates to the unit of competency as a whole. It allows for different work environments and situations that may affect performance. Bold italicised wording, if used in the performance criteria, is detailed below.
