Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Instructions to Assessors

Evidence Guide

The Evidence Guide provides advice on assessment and must be read in conjunction with the performance criteria, required skills and knowledge, range statement and the Assessment Guidelines for the Training Package.

Overview of assessment

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

Evidence of the following is essential:

ability to source and oversee the set-up of rehearsal facilities that meet production needs

ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflicts in production rehearsals

knowledge of technical aspects of the rehearsal process

collaborative approach to work.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Assessment must ensure:

access to potential and actual venues where rehearsals could realistically take place

access to physical production elements

access to relevant industrial awards

access to relevant OHS regulations

access to appropriate learning and assessment support when required

use of culturally appropriate processes and techniques appropriate to the language and literacy capacity of learners and the work being performed.

The assessment context must provide for:

practical demonstration of skills through the sourcing and set-up of a rehearsal facility for an actual production, plus the facilitation of the rehearsal process

interaction with and involvement of a production and performance team involved in the rehearsal process.

Method of assessment

A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:

direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence and third-party workplace reports of on-the-job performance

observation of the candidate working in a rehearsal context to assess candidate's ability to interact with other personnel

review of schedules and other production documentation prepared by the candidate

written or oral questioning to test knowledge as listed in the required skills and knowledge section of this unit

discussion with the candidate about the management of rehearsals, challenges faced and how these were overcome.

Guidance information for assessment

Holistic assessment with other units relevant to the industry sector, workplace and job role is recommended, for example:

BSBCRT402A Collaborate in a creative process

CUESMT11B Create, update and use production reference documents
