Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying relevant legislation, standards, and organisational policies and procedures

completing relevant documentation

identifying hazards, assessing risks and applying risk control measures to minimise, control, eliminate or report identified hazards

inspecting equipment prior to hooking up externally slung loads to rotary wing aircraft

reading, interpreting and complying with instructions, organisational procedures and regulations

securing, rigging and hooking up externally slung loads to rotary wing aircraft

selecting and using appropriate protective clothing and equipment

using equipment effectively in the operating environment.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

aircraft and airfield hazards and relevant control measures

capabilities of relevant rotary wing aircraft

external lift hook-up procedures and guidelines

principles of safe load lifts and static discharge

relevant emergency incident management plan, and organisational policies and procedures

relevant safe work practices when slinging loads to rotary wing aircraft

safe weight limits for externally slung loads to rotary wing aircraft

relevant manual lifting procedures, particularly related to refurbishing stores.
