Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare and deploy ground based air defence systems

  1. Resources required for the performance of the task are determined and organised in accordance with orders
  2. Identified problems/shortfalls are reported to immediate supervisor in accordance with standard procedures
  3. Orders are followed to move to a directed location and concealment is maintained
  4. Ground based air defence system is deployed in accordance with orders
  5. System is established, integrated and checked for functionality

Instructions to Assessors

Evidence Guide

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

Assessment must confirm the ability to recognise own level of authority; to correctly identify a number of different types of aerial targets as determined by the Combat Arms Training Centre; to prioritise targets in a high intensity situation encountered in a threat environment; to direct fire in a clear and concise manner, and to take appropriate action in the event of misfire and cancel missile in-flight; and to supervise the deployment and maintenance of ground based air defence systems.

Consistency in performance

Competency should be demonstrated over a period of time in a range of different environments that could be expected in the workplace.

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Context of assessment

Competency should be assessed in a simulated operational environment due to the high cost of ammunition. The simulation should replicate the live environment where stress and fatigue are key features.

Specific resources for assessment

Access to a hi-fidelity simulator that accurately simulates the threat environment.
