Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying organisational policies and procedures

applying safety case risk management system by:

explaining how safety (and other forms of risk) has been considered with regard to any system or equipment throughout the life of the capability from definition through to disposal

explaining how due diligence has been given to the hazards associated with the introduction into service of new capability, and documenting the system that facilitates the management of hazards

conducting relevant research into identified safety case issues

identifying the issues surrounding the provision of safety case advice

identifying, analysing and evaluating relevant information

liaising effectively with colleagues and stakeholders

preparing reports

presenting the safety case advice

providing and receiving feedback in a constructive manner

selecting the most appropriate option

using a variety of verbal and non-verbal communication techniques.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

analysis process

applicable regulatory systems

information sources and research techniques

organisational guidelines and standards

organisational policies and procedures

product knowledge related to systems and/or equipment in service in the organisation

professional codes of practice and duty of care

safety case documentation, procedures and processes

statutory requirements relevant to safety cases

written communication required to prepare quality reports.
