Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

DEFSEN001 - Operate a radar system

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Configure radar system

  1. Confirm serviceability of radar system, recognise and report any fault.
  2. Optimise radar display for operator use.
  3. Optimise system in line with the environmental conditions.
  4. Establish internal and external communications.

Compile and maintain an electronic picture

  1. Identify and discriminate radar contacts by collecting, collating and analysing information.
  2. Use radar identification friend or foe (IFF) and other available sensors/sources to collect information.
  3. Report, display and disseminate contact details to stakeholders.
  4. Respond to threats.
  5. Report problems or issues beyond own capability to supervisor.
