Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

DEFSEN008 - Support the compilation of the tactical picture

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Detect and track contacts using sensors

  1. Detect contacts by monitoring sensor display.
  2. Analyse sensor returns to recognise valid contacts.
  3. Track contacts.
  4. Alert shift supervisor and other sensor operators of the contact by transmitting initial contact report.
  5. Monitor tracking of contacts to ensure the validity of the track.
  6. Perform manual tracking of contacts in the event of loss of automatic tracking of critical contacts.

Recognise contact

  1. Classify contacts.
  2. Assign identity of contacts to enable quick reference and identification by other sensor operators.
  3. Transmit supplementary contact reports.
  4. Recognise information from other sources and reclassify contact designated as ambiguous as required.
