Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

FSKNUM20 - Use basic functions of a calculator

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Use basic functions on a calculator to undertake routine mathematical calculations

  1. Identify and use keys for basic functions on a calculator
  2. Calculate using whole numbers, money and routine decimals and percentages
  3. Calculate with routine fractions and percentages
  4. Apply order of operations to solve multi-step calculations
  5. Interpret display and record result

Check and communicate results

  1. Make estimations to check reasonableness of problem solving process, outcome and its appropriateness to the context and task
  2. Use formal and informal mathematical language and appropriate symbolism and conventions to communicate the result of the task
