Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare for cutting or machining process

  1. Review work order and identify required finished board sizes and quantities in line with operator.
  2. Prepare to work safely according to workplace work health and safety (WHS) requirements.
  3. Check sequence of cuts or machining passes with operator and work order, where multiple cuts are required.

Maintain process flow.

  1. Control flitch, cant or board to maintain process flow in line with sawing or dressing speed, WHS requirements and production standards.
  2. Control and regularly clear sawn waste and material in line with site procedures and environmental requirements.
  3. Assess flitch, cant or board for further processing requirements and return to operator in line with production standards.
  4. Identify and report problems in flow or processing of materials to operator for resolution.
  5. Dispose of faulty or defective material in line with site procedures and environmental requirements, as directed by operator.
