Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

FWPCOT3214 - Take off material quantities

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Itemise materials

  1. Obtain and interpret production specifications to determine material types and job costing requirements.
  2. Identify components to be listed; integrate general detailing and dimensioning systems.
  3. Prepare tables for listing, list and categorise items in line with industry standards.
  4. Complete itemised list of all materials in line with order requirements and organisational procedures.
  5. Select common industry materials where no specific information is provided and material is not critical to design.

Detail material sizes and quantities

  1. Calculate, scale or extract physical dimensions for components from tables in line with order requirements.
  2. Estimate material quantities and express as industry standard lengths or sheet sizes, allowing for wastage.
  3. Accumulate multiple requirements for identical material and document total quantities.
  4. Complete and maintain detailed notes and records of material usage, and cutting and machining requirements.
