Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

FWPCOT4205 - Coordinate log debarking operations

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Plan debarking operations

  1. Assess variations in timber characteristics and record outcomes of assessment.
  2. Produce debarking schedules according to organisational procedures
  3. Communicate schedules, log management procedures and order information to sawyers.
  4. Plan and prescribe diameters and lengths.

Monitor debarking process

  1. Review specified standard diameters and lengths.
  2. Monitor debarking processes for accuracy of diameter and condition of debarked logs
  3. Provide assistance to operators with the evaluation of logs and debarking problems
  4. Monitor log management and output and record possible process improvements
  5. Investigate, record and report on debarking operations, major problems and equipment faults.
