Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

FWPFGM4203 - Design plantations

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare for plantation design

  1. Assess site and identify site environmental protection measures.
  2. Review and analyse relevant plans to assess impacts on proposed plantation.
  3. Consult with stakeholders and obtain input into the design for the site.
  4. Review organisational maps, plans and strategies and how they relate to plantation requirements.
  5. Develop measurable performance indicators, specifications and targets for the plantation.

Design components of plantation

  1. Arrange surveys and determine species tolerances for the plantation site.
  2. Develop plan for site preparation.
  3. Develop design components and obtain approvals.

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit. If a specific volume or frequency is not stated below, then evidence must be provided that the following requirements have been performed on at least one occasion:

follow organisational policies and procedures relevant to designing plantations

interpret aerial photographs and maps

design a plantation using consultative processes with colleagues and stakeholders to obtain inputs, and ensure efficient use of resources

design a plantation that meets specified requirements

review a plantation design against determined performance indicators, specifications and targets

develop recommendations for design improvements.

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

commonwealth, state or territory or local government legislative and regulatory requirements and codes of practice relevant to designing plantations

retained vegetation

density of trees

ground slope

soil and water protection
