Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

FWPSAW3210 - File and set saws

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare for filing and saw setting

  1. Review work order and where required check with appropriate personnel.
  2. Select appropriate repair, maintenance and personal protective equipment and check for operational effectiveness in line with manufacturer's recommendations.
  3. Plan setting process in line with work order.
  4. Follow organisational safety procedures thoughout all maintenance and repair processes.
  5. Set up saw in selected jig to enable setting work.
  6. Check kerf and finish requirements to suit machine horsepower, saw type and cutting conditions.
  7. Examine individual teeth to check amount of setting required.
  8. Maintain welding condition, saw temper and consistency of set between alternate teeth.
  9. Measure and assess teeth for correct setting.
  10. Bevel teeth and assess bevel length.
  11. Apply set to teeth and allow for estimated spring back.
  12. Check set to teeth using gauges in line with organisational procedures.
  13. Identify routine processing and equipment faults and resolve or report to appropriate personnel.
Review work order and where required check with appropriate personnel.
