Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:

assisted with 3 social work clients, 1 in a simulated environment and 2 in the workplace

performed the activities outlined in the performance criteria of this unit during a period of at least 120 hours of work

The candidate must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the work role. This includes knowledge of:

policy and procedures in relation to infection control

services available for referral, both within the organisation and in the community, including:

Centrelink, Medicare and other government agencies, and the services they provide

community based organisations with a focus on particular client groups

word processing programs, spreadsheets and databases commonly used in an organisation and correct use to accurately complete tasks

concepts of cultural awareness, cultural safety and cultural competence and how these can impact work

commonly used screening assessment tools, their purposes and application

legal and ethical considerations relevant to allied health:

privacy, confidentiality and disclosure

work role boundaries – responsibilities and limitations of self and other team members including nursing, medical and other personnel and their scope of practice

work health and safety
