Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:

identified at least 2 potential health risks or problems associated with health hardware and fixtures:

developing and implementing a work plan that includes strategies to deal with each issue

identifying and communicating with stakeholders throughout the process

carried out at least 2 repair and/or maintenance tasks on health hardware and/or fixtures

The candidate must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively complete tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the work role. This includes knowledge of:

legal and organisation requirements relating to repair and maintenance work, including:

organisation standards, policies and procedures, including:

infection control

manual handling

personal protective equipment

immunisation requirements and/or recommendations

scope of own role and responsibilities

approvals required and process of obtaining approvals

referral agencies and their roles and responsibilities

common faults, risks and problems associated with health hardware and fixtures and how to identify

correct selection and use of tools, equipment and materials to be used for repairs and other tasks required
