Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has:

consulted with relevant personnel to assist with determining the project plan activities and requirements of at least 2 existing population health project plans, including:

timetabling project and evaluation tasks

sourcing project and evaluation resources

calculating project and evaluation costs

presented outcomes to the project planner.

The candidate must be able to demonstrate essential knowledge required to effectively complete tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the work role. This includes knowledge of:

legal and organisation requirements relating to identifying community health needs, including:

relevant international charters and declarations and documents

national, State/Territory and local health policies, goals, targets and priorities relevant to identifying health needs

social change and advocacy processes

scope of own role and responsibilities

equity issues in population health

evidence-based practice

theory and practice of population health, including health promotion, and health protection and prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases

overview of the stages in population health project planning

planning models

sources of information, including:

literature from population health and related disciplines, such as published books, peer-reviewed papers and reports
