Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Evidence of the ability to:

produce TWO basic relief printing jobs (if possible, including at least one in-line process) according to manufacturer’s and job specifications and enterprise procedures using either a platen, cylinder or rotary printing machine (jobs should be completed while maintaining product quality standards, and production problems should be rectified with minimum downtime)

correctly shut down machine and clean according to work health and safety (WHS) guidelines

use control, monitoring and data entry systems

manipulate embellishment tools and operations

provide an example of printed material below acceptable standard.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

explain reel or sheet transportation and delivery systems

explain WHS requirements when loading and handling heavy reel sheets fanned before loading into the press

explain web tracking and importance to position and register

describe consequences of not splicing web correctly

list components to be adjusted to ensure correct delivery

explain effect of excessive suction on the slow-down wheels
