Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Evidence of the ability to:

prepare, set up and use a graphic arts camera to photograph and process TWO different line originals according to listed performance criteria

evaluate quality of photographic output to ensure suitability for design purpose and final media or reproduction process

ensure underlying quality of photographic images is transferable across different camera designs and processing systems; identifying the substrate for reproduction, and quality of photographic image, is suitable for the identified printing process

demonstrate an ability to find and use task relevant information from a variety of information sources.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

describe effect of different printing processes on line images

perform enlargement factor calculation

identify base exposure data

identify factors that cause base exposure to change

correctly process an image

identify factors that control quality of output through the processor

explain copy characteristics that require a change to base exposure

explain relationship between magnification and exposure

list characteristics of a correctly exposed line negative

outline image requirements for various printing processes

list work health and safety (WHS) requirement for operating a processor

explain how to maintain consistent output from the processor

list manuals, safety and other documentation relevant to this task and identify where are they kept and what information is included.
