Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

ICPSUP263 - Perform basic industry calculations

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Calculate costs and dimensions

  1. Additions, subtractions, multiplications and divisions of costs and dimensions are correctly calculated
  2. Material and time costs are correctly calculated for elements of a job/brief
  3. Percentages of cost and time are correctly calculated to fulfil requirements of a job/brief
  4. Results of calculations are correctly recorded

Evidence of the ability to:

perform numerical calculations involving basic arithmetic, percentages and geometry to calculate costs, dimensions, weights, areas, density and volumes

complete activities using basic measuring tools used in the printing industry

document the results of calculations.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

explain how to perform quick approximations of expected answers

describe parallax errors and how they affect measurements

explain how acceptable tolerances in measurement are determined

list the measuring tools available in the workplace and briefly describe the function of each tool.
