Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

ICTNWK301 - Provide network systems administration

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Provide client access and security

  1. Provide logons, passwords and applications file access to users, and prepare the documentation in line with organisational requirements
  2. Examine the records of user accounts, to determine access privileges and usage
  3. Take the necessary action to ensure the maintenance of system integrity and security

Evidence of the ability to:

sustain the operation of the network through the maintenance of network integrity, and by performing diagnostic tests

contribute to the formulation of a disaster recovery plan, and provide the client with an optimised network that complies with the organisational guidelines

implement network and systems efficiency, according to organisational guidelines

provide the appropriate access to the network for users

maintain, limit or enhance user access, according to authorised requests.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

outline the network’s operating system

outline the different approaches to backing-up, and restoring, computer data

describe the key elements contained in a disaster recovery policy

describe the features of network file and folder permissions

outline the vendor service-level agreement

summarise operating systems supported by the organisation, their functions and basic features

outline the organisation’s access and security procedures

identify and describe the organisational and technical systems

describe the organisational procedures for protection against, and elimination, of computer viruses

describe the policies and procedures for deleting, restoring and archiving files

describe the procedures for creating logons

outline the security, and network, guidelines and procedures

state the responsibilities for software copyright.
