Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. To be deemed competent the candidate must be assessed in at least one type of handling procedure, using at least one type of chlorine draw and at least one type of container listed in the Range of Conditions. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

applying correct liquefied chlorine gas container procedures for transport, handling and storage

operating safely and following procedure when disconnecting and reconnecting gas draw or liquid draw chlorinator systems

interpreting safety data sheets (SDS)

selecting, fitting and using PPE, including air supplied self-contained breathing apparatus

implementing relevant Australian standards, SDS requirements and other legislative and organisational requirements

following emergency protocols and procedures relating to liquefied chlorine gas hazards

collecting samples and conducting tests, including at least one of:

free chlorine

total chlorine

pH

turbidity

temperature

performing process calculations, including at least one of:

feed rate

dosage
