Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

POLSAR001 - Manage and evaluate search and rescue exercises

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Design search and rescue exercise

  1. Determine search and rescue exercise purpose in consultation with stakeholders and based on operational outcomes, results of training needs analysis, previous exercises and evaluation reports.
  2. Develop exercise plan with identified components of the exercise program in consultation with stakeholders.
  3. Identify agencies/organisations required to facilitate search and rescue exercise.
  4. Evaluate feasibility of exercise program in accordance with resource availability.
  5. Select exercise style and activities consistent with exercise objectives.
  6. Conduct risk assessment to identify risk and safety factors.
