Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, and must be able to provide evidence of the ability to:

operate process control equipment, at least twice in line with required enterprise intervals, associated with integrated systems selected from the following list:

waste paper handling processes

waste paper operations processes

pulping processes

chemical recovery systems

stock preparation systems

wet end processes

dry end processes

finishing and converting processes

warehousing and dispatch process

water services processes

coated paper processes

electrical power generation processes

monitor key variables during the operation of process control equipment including:

speed

output rate

product integrity and general conformance to specification

access and navigate control systems

make process adjustments using the control system

use electronic and other control systems to control equipment.

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

procedures, regulations and workplace requirements relevant to operating process control equipment including WHS, SOP, isolation procedures, safe working requirements and housekeeping

materials, equipment and process sufficient to recognise material and equipment conditions which may lead to out of specification production

effect of adjustments on part or product specifications

risk management using the hierarchy of controls applied to the operation of computer controlled machines/processes

approved hazard control, safety procedures and the use of PPE in relation to handling materials, equipment operation and clean up

symbols used in process controls

computer-controlled machine operating procedures

procedures for identifying and reporting equipment malfunctions, and product or part deviations.
