Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, and must be able to provide evidence that they can:

identify production requirements and manage power generation startup within a pulp and paper manufacturing facility, at least twice in line with required enterprise intervals, to suit power generation levels over different operating periods

complete pre-startup safety checks

complete routine maintenance when preparing for system startup

follow safe working practices when starting up a power generation system

use electronic and other control systems to control equipment during operations

communicate effectively, through written and verbal means, with others, in the work area when starting up a power generation system

on completion of each of the above system startups, record system startup processes and power generation performance data in the operating log.

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
