Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

A person demonstrating competency in this unit must satisfy all of the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, and must be able to provide evidence that they can:

co-ordinate planned shutdowns of a steam boiler within a pulp and paper manufacturing facility, at least twice in line with required enterprise intervals, and complete the following tasks after shut down:

inspect the boiler and complete routine preventative maintenance

clean the boiler internally and externally

analyse stored boiler water and chemicals

complete basic records for shutdown processes and maintenance requirements

respond to unplanned or emergency shutdowns, which can be a real time event or by scenario, and implement responses appropriate to the cause and complete a basic report on corrective action processes.

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
